I've been here since dirt was young. You'd THINK I'd know better than to go in there without my kevlar panties on and a barf bag in each hand. How MANY freaking elections have we all seen on here over the years? You'd THINK that by now I'd have learned that elections bring out the shit end of every dipstick, but NOOOoooo. I had to venture in.

Gawd. I need another cat pic!

I'll grant you, the Old Style leaves me kinda queasy, but there is NEVER a bad day at the ball park! I wish I could say the same about GD. I'd even take a warm Old Style rather than have to deal with the crap in GD.

I'm thinking convivial, festive, maybe even in extreme cases intoxicated. So far, I'm just not feeling it over in GD. As a Lounge Lizard, I'm good, but the whole GD thing is just not working for me today.

That's why I wasn't on yesterday. He did relinquish his post a couple of times to raid the kitten chow bowl, but the sheltie took over. It's HIS spot and she doesn't appreciate getting thrown out (which he will) and just crashes at the end of the bed looking dejected.

And yes, my big boy loves raspberries on the tummy...

I suggest hot chocolate with Creme de Menthe. Yummy on a cold night. Warming just to think about.

Extra warm feelings, running your way, down there.

Look, you've already forgotten it for a moment.

And politics can be pretty emotional, since people's lives are being affected. So it's not surprising, and, actually, it is *expected*, that some issues can result in very heated exchanges in General Discussion. But that's one thing that has kept me hanging around DU for nearly 12 years

Not gonna tell you which ones they DO use, either!

Nah, the "heated exchanges" over in GD don't really bother me much. I figure that I've been on striking picket lines with some of the most hard core "union thugs" in the midwest. I've faced down a naked guy who pulled a gun on me and I've been called every name in the book (plus a couple that were pretty durn inventive!) and nobody died. Right now, however, GD is a different beastie. Rude as all hell, dumber than an oyster, and prolific to the point of remarkability seems to be the trademark of this particular group of new trolls. Today they annoyed the piss outta me and I came here to ease my soul and find some fun with the DU community that I've loved for almost 12 years.

That community--the folks in here--is another reason to hang around DU for that long.

I don't think it was conceal and carry if that was your question. (I wish we had those "ah-OOO-ga!" eyes like they used to use in cartoons. Those would have been the perfect smiley here, I swear!)

It was a shotgun and he came strolling out of the other room nekkid with that gun in his hands. He leveled it at me and in not very nice terms suggested I become his overnight guest. I declined his offer and "hilarity ensued." I found out later that he'd done that same thing to other women and had actually beaten one or two of them in the process. Without going TMI, I'll tell you that while it was happening I had been drinking and I was extremely pissed off by it all. My anger may have been what saved me because I walked out of that house without him laying a finger on me. Had I cried rather than raged I think it might have ended differently.

Sorry to confuse you so early in the day!

I check it everyday, but every time I do I end up running afoul of SOME post or another that just sets me off.

Usually it's just the shocking RUDENESS one poster will show another simply for trying to offer an opinion.

Other times it's the total lack of a humor and/or sarcasm detector. So many people over there seem to have lost theirs...

It is a new day and I am feeling much refreshed by the respite here with all my fellow Lounge Lizards. I was starting to get an itchy finger on the mouse--wanting to go into GD--NOT going into GD but looking at LBN instead--hovering over the button for GD then yanking the cursor away from there again.

I am WEAK!!!! But I will not go into GD this hour. I don't NEED to go into GD, I only think I want to. I can do this...

There is always someone waiting to piss in your Cheerios. Happened to me recently and I was upset all day. I thought I was presenting a reasoned, compassionate opinion and another DUer danced all over my head. I put this person on "ban" and went to lick my wounds. I'm embarrassed I let it bug me this much, but it did.

This wasn't even a challenge - just an expression of something that was meaningful to me, but member-stick-up-their-butt conducted a completely irrelevant ad homenim attack. Hey - I've marched with progressive causes all over the US and even in London. I'll go to the wall for people's civil rights. But not for self-righteous stick-up-their butts.

John Cleese said it best in a Dick Cavett interview decades ago. He loved America, but remarked there were so many people who said "You can't possibly say that! I might become offended!"

Peace. Looking for kitty photo.
