4. Just make your mind up that you're going to lose that weight

After listening to the Beatles sing "Boy, you're gonna carry that weight, carry that weight a long time..." for the umpteenth time, I decided that I was NOT going to "carry that weight".

I've cut down on the fatty calories, have included more fruits and vegetables and less meat in my diet, eat almost no snack food anymore (but boy, do I crave potato chips, especially with sour cream and onion dip) and drink no soda pop that has zero nutritional value. I also make sure to get some exercise every day, and write down what I eat. My biggest meal is breakfast, followed by lunch, with a light supper. After calculating the calories I've had for breakfast and lunch, I try to keep my supper calories from making the total exceed 1600-1700 for the entire day. Therefore, supper always includes low-calorie, filling stuff like lettuce, vegetable juice, kimchee, beans and tofu, or some combination thereof.

Since July, this regimen has helped me lose 10% of my former body weight.

Filling, low-calorie, and nutritious. Home-made Korean kimchee is great, although the Japanese-made stuff they sell in the stores here is pretty good, too

Basically it is Chinese cabbage (napa) in sauce. The Korean style is pretty spicy, since it contains hot red peppers, and the sauce tastes kind of like picante sauce. The Japanese style is sweeter, with less red pepper, and the sauce is similar to sweet chili sauce.
