It was the eight feet of clog in the line. Plus the way the line was installed without a proper cleanout. It had to be rodded through my grease trap (which I had not cleaned in years) then a new cleanout installed closer to the street. And repiping the kitchen line (which was actually supposed to be a vent line but whoever put in the addition just tied the kitchen lines to the vent.

As it was there was not a true backup and nothing was ruined. But, dammit, no spring training trip to Streamsong for me this year...

I ask b/c a worker tried ripping my friend's family off for 10,000, by claiming things that werent there were clogging up pipes.

The only similar jobs that I've been involved in that cost that much was where the old orange sewer pipe had collapsed and it all had to be dug up and replaced.

I'm finding that many of the things that claim they are flushable really aren't that. ANd when you have to pay for your own plumbing

or dig up and replace the old clogged sewer line?

If he replaced the sewer line, that's not a bad price.

I also believed the story that buying a house is a good idea. Sometimes I'm not so sure.

we just finished digging up our gas line - over 400 feet! what a chore

almost had to hire a plumber for that job and it would have been over $7K - F that! I could have had a pro electrician come in and bought new appliances for a quarter of that. we ended up doing it ourselves for a couple hundred and now we know! ag exemption status saved our ass!
