This is an incredible Old Time Radio streaming site (www.otr.net ), but I think you
might REALLY like the Nero Wolfe shows -- he pretty much would like to spend all
his non-dining hours amongst his orchids (and spend the majority of his earnings
acquiring them).

I worked in a moderately-sized wholesale greenhouse operation and the owner had a number
of propane-fueled jet blower/heaters (they actually looked like jet engines) for when the
electricity would go out (and in SE Pennsylvania, that was several times a winter).
