Rolling Stones premiering new single at 3:15 a.m. EST

coming up shortly - listen here:

I'm curious what they sound like after such a long time off.

It seems that The Rolling Stones are maybe-just-maybe back again, as move #1 towards the delayed 50th Anniversary Tour has been made. The Stones announced today the WORLD EXCLUSIVE first airplay of their brand new single ‘Doom And Gloom,’ a momentous first listen that will take place on Thursday, October 11th at 8:15 a.m. Additionally, the single can be downloaded on the same day from iTunes.

‘Doom And Gloom’ marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven years. Taken from the forthcoming album GRRR! Greatest Hits, ‘Doom And Gloom’ was recorded in Paris and produced by longtime Rolling Stones producer Don Was, who has worked with the band on five previous albums (Voodoo Lounge/ Stripped/ Bridges To Babylon/ Live Licks/ A Bigger Bang), with the radio mix produced by Jeff Bhasker.

Putting one or two new songs on a compilation like that is such a fucking dick move.

I hope this means a whole new studio album will be forthcoming. I dunno if they can still tour, but I doubt the studio magic has evaporated yet.

but with all the talk of the few shows they have planned being their last, I figure A Bigger Bang may have been the final studio album

act your age and retire. Nothing of substance to contribute, but palms open for more fading baby boomer money. Die Stones. I loved you once.

They just seem to be trying way tooooooo hard and it really dates them.

Led Zeppelin was smart. When the drummer died they retired and they only feed us bits and pieces of reunion possiblities while only putting out a greatest hits album about every 10 years. And even when it is a 'greatest hits' it is usually some live footage remastered.

BUT the music itself isn't bad. A young band doing this, with better vocals and a good guitar solo, and it would go somewhere. I think the fact that it's the Stones (and they're super old) prejudices people against it.

meh.. then again I was never huge into the Stones, although the longevity does earn my respect, to be sure.
