The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsName Amnesty Is Coming - Should I Change Names?
Every four years, Skinner offers name amnesty. Presumably, this is so those who chose "ILovePresident Kerry" can select a name more in keeping with the current election cycle.
Not that being "OmahaBlueDog" isn't fun and all. Not that I ever get screamed at (in a message board sense) for being part of a movement that is ruining the party; doesn't stand for anything; and encourages canines to be painted blue. Naw...this never happens.
So thought I'd come to you, The Lounge, to ask about changing my name. Frankly, I wanted to ask in Meta, but you can't run polls, and many of those folks have me on ignore, anyway.
Here are the nominees:
OmahaBlueDot: I didn't think of this. Someone else did. The idea is that Omaha is this small island of blue -- a dot, if you will -- in the very red state of Nebraska.
OmahaSteven: Omaha Steve is just a great DUer, and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
John Holmes: It's not taken as a user name, and it makes the kind of statement I want to make to the ladies of the Lounge.
Juror #3: Let's face it, I'd always be a topic of discussion in Meta, and people could never really ignore me.
DLCLovingConservaDem: Some days I think to myself "I'm 'OmahaBlueDog', and on a site where folks like Ben Nelson are routinely condemned, I only have 12 star members ignoring me." I'm thinking this would fix that issue once and for all.
History of Feminism: What could be more fun in Meta than being Juror 3? If I chose this name, every post I made would go to the jury!
Cliquish Behavior: When I'd post, there would be cliquish behavior in the lounge.
Skinner: I'd just run around, making zany, random announcements about new directions this site will take. I might even bring back grovelbot.
Don't be an idiot. Keep the name. : After every amnesty period, there is an adjustment period involving much Advil while we all try to figure out the new names of old posters. Maybe you don't want this hassle?
I have a suggestion for a name: you shall be _______________ (please post below)

(10,100 posts)Hey,
I'm in Lincoln. I really do not like the Kerry advert where he says "Democrats say all we need to do is spend more money", ugh. Oh well, not sure what kind of chance he has.
Peace

(21,850 posts)so we can suggest a name that suits you.
Maybe others know you but I don't. Sorry.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)Well, without completely lifting the vail of anonymity...
I am a Nebraska Democrat, originally from Florida. I am a male with a wife & 2 kids. I am a fan of the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Brewers. I drink Scotch whiskey. I listen to music ranging from Niki Minaj to Joni Mitchell to Led Zeppelin to Paul Oakenfold. I consider myself a Blue Dog principally because I support balanced budgets, and because I personally oppose abortion, although I do not favor making abortion illegal. I support organized labor, American made products, space exploration, public education, marriage equality, gas taxes instead of toll roads, national parks, Native American causes, gun rights, and the absolute right of parents to be seated next to their children (10 & under) on commercial flights no matter who it inconveniences. I perform a professional job that I don't discuss, and I want to be an Ice Road Trucker or a commercial pilot when I grow up.
Contrary to popular belief, Omaha Steve and I have never met. (I was invited to one of his campaign fundraisers, but I had a prior commitment).

(21,850 posts)When I read that you liked Scotch. I thought "on the rocks." Is that how you like your Scotch?
If not, how about "Nebraska Neat?" It rhymes with Miami Heat.
Even if you don't like these names, I hope they spur you to new names you hadn't thought of.
