Well it inspired me to write one of my own. I'm on Chapter 2. Please read! Note: I'm writing in the first person as a 19 year old male when I'm in real life a 45 year old female and most of my research on 19 year old male brain is via Internet message boards so I apologize for any inaccuracies for that!

(2,566 posts)I guess I don't get into the who s and m thing but my biggest problem was that Julian Grey was such an insufferable asshole. I don't care how rich or handsome he is, jerk is a jerk. (Maybe I'm just plain jaded from my life experiences)

(12,321 posts)I couldn't finish reading it. The writing was horrible and predictable...and boring!
Your version is quite entertaining!

(10,573 posts)The sex scenes really didn't do anything for me. It was just poorly written porn.
I did keep reading, because I wanted to know more about how the male character became the way he did.
I have had several friends tell me that once your significant other reads it, hang on for the ride and enjoy.
My GF is reading it now. Guess I'll stay tuned....

(8,217 posts)Because my best friend(girl) asked me to.
I couldn't stand the main two characters.
Guy is a controlling creep through and through. Only works for him because he is rich and looks kinda decent.
Girl is an idiot "Inner Goddess" invoking dumby.
The whole series is pretty tame, they act like they are in high school.
Still, it fits with the fantasy of being a "self made" man who got his wealth through his own work and intelligence, when the guy's work ethic(is predominantly stuck in stalking), mostly actually through contacts from someone who is already rich(who he slept with), and supposedly based on feeding the hungry.
All of it is a simplified fantasy.
Any how, if you want something really crazy, go for the Ann Rice writing as another name, those things are far worse.

(95,337 posts)Had Wikipedia had pages for the other 2 books that included the storyline i would not have purchased the books. I did want to find out what happened after she left, I"m sorry to say I wish I didn't bother.
The sex was somewhat interesting but what made it bad was all the chit-chat and bad storyline in between. It's like in 4 months these 2 basically lived a lifetime of the most crazy impossible stuff like an ex-sub stalking Ana, Ana's boss trying to rape her, CHristian's plane crashing (and not one in the 6 hours he was missing did he bother to try and find a phone to make a call and let people know he was alive even though he was all over the news as missing), a couple of blow-outs with Mrs Robinson, the ex-boss getting revenge, marriage, pregancy blah blah blah blah blah.
I mean seriously, i could see these things all happening within a lifetime but my guess is this all happened within about 5 months from when the series first started.
It was just beyond bad writing.

(7,237 posts)If someone wants to read good kinky fiction, the Anne Rice Sleeping Beauty trilogy (written under a pseudonym) are much better. And they are much more gender balanced when it comes to who is in control.

(6,801 posts)they create unrealistic views of men that cannot be based on reality forcing women to view natural male bodies and behaviors as repulsive. These unrealistic standards create conflicts between men and women with men being unable to live up to the unrealistic standards created by this fiction.
They permanently change the neurochemistry of the viewer leading to ero-toxicity.
They promote the notion that men are objects that exist to provide sexual gratification to women. All these constant objectification lead women (who cannot tell fiction from reality) to view men as less than human.
They don't expand women's sexuality, they stunt it by presenting a limited view of human sexual intercourse.
This has lead to a complete degradation of society and has done irreparable harm to interactions between the genders. Many women are addicted to their romance novels and won't agree with my accurate assesment. They will bitterly cling to their precious novels and reject the harm they are doing to society.
And don't claim freedom of speech. No one has a right to commit such societal harm.
/whoa . . . things got kind of crazy there. Of course none of that made any sense. I don't know where that came from.
