But I'd probably make them immediately heat them up and reseason them. I admit though, it's a hanging offense in some states and I came from one of those.

not just skillets. But I'd be wondering why they hooked up a dishwasher in my house.

are heavy...

I have six skillets, a dutch oven, and a 1-1/2 cup butter melting pot.

I think I would do serious damage to someone's head if I hit them even with the little melting pot.

THere was an old country store that was closed and the contents were going up for auction. One thing the store sold was cast-iron skillets. I won 2 small skirts (one round and the other square) that were brand new but probably in the store for decades. I haven't used them yet - they need seasoning first.

are great for one grilled cheese or a fried egg or whatever.

Funny, I had had cast iron some years ago but didn't really like it...probably because I didn't know how to properly use and care for it.

So I used Teflon. Which, as everyone knows, doesn't last a long time, and which I've read can give off toxic fumes when overheated. Plus it peeled.

I tried again with a cast iron skillet about six or seven years ago, and fell in love with it after learning how to use it. So I replaced all my Teflon with cast iron, except for two stainless steel sauce pans.

Next on my wishlist is a cast iron wok.

All of my cast iron (it's all I cook with) is Lodge cast iron. http://www.lodgemfg.com/

If you ever get down there they have a great outlet shop, selling seconds & those with minor flaws. Work just as well, and much cheaper.

use dish soap on mine.

If the food is stuck on, I boil a bit of water in the pan, then use my nylon scrubber to get it out. Back onto the hot stove to evaporate the water, and while still hot, I rub the inside with olive oil and put away when cool.

I think my two cast iron skillets are at least 40 years old if not older. Fortunately I have never had a mechanical dishwasher.

Is it because it's harmful to the cookware, or to the dishwasher?

Or both?
