Kidney stone tips

My wonderful partner has been suffering for days with what we think may have been a kidney stone. Now he is worried there will be more. Anyone have any tips for prevention, and faster passage in case this happens again? I have never seen someone suffer so much!

Percoset won't do shit. It's just oxycodone - an opioid. That will kill the pain, but nothing more. HopeHoops Sep 2012 #4

In the meanwhile drinking LOTS of water.

Been there! The only thing that works on the pain is Morphine.

Doc gave him some Percosets but they did not really help. He's in the sore, after passing stage, just nervous that there may be more. He is super healthy, careful with diet, so this whole thing was a slap in the face.

I take oxycodone. It sort of freaks me out, but it does knock out the pain. It won't do anything for kidney stones.

On Edit: Percocet is 5mg Oxycodone and 325mg Acetamenophen (sp?) - same as what I take in generic form. It's just a pain reliever, but it does weird you out in a big way. Opioids are a trip on their own, and nothing I'd do for recreation.

But almonds aside, he needs medical attention IMMEDIATELY! If the block up the passage, the renal fluids could be fatal, and passing a stone is never pleasant under any conditions.

that helped me...I don't know why it works for kidney pain, but I found it worked best for me.

good quality beer...
lots of water
and high quality milk.

and get to a doctor! because you need to find out what kind of stone it is...
what it's made of...because that can help determine treatment.
Also you need to rule out infection....because I nearly died from
a kidney infection. DON't go there. Go to a doctor now.

I'm not giving medical advice, just simply speaking of my own experience.
get to a doctor

and do understand sometimes they are just a one-off odd thing that may never happen again, other people are chronic stone formers

there are some fairly cheap tests for blood and urine chemistry that may help guide any prevention strategies, but water is the number one "trick"

I know a guy who was doing work in Somalia and was stuck with no real help other than internet to his travel doc back home - she said at least a gallon a day until it passes.

1 scrip each of percoset and cipro. I think he passed it, he's out of pain now, but wants to prevent future incidences. He is uninsured, self employed, had to give up his GHI when they wanted $800 a month a few years back.
He is soo pissed about the stone, because he does eat right, exercise, lives clean.
