phone call? I have.
I dislike phone conversations.

(115,878 posts)Hell, yes. Years ago, back when I had a night life and we carried pagers, pretending my pager went off got me out of a few boring or uncomfortable bar conversations. Sometimes we'd call each other's pagers from a pay phone as a getaway ploy.

(24,055 posts)There was a parent name that always used to make me wince when it showed up on the call list. It was a dad, who had preschool twins. He was a good dad, and very observant, and VERY detail oriented. I'd always know that he would go on and on, at great length, including every possible detail from the last 3-4 weeks just in case something might be even remotely relevant to the reason for today's call.
I'm not very assertive, so it was very difficult to find a way to politely interject and attempt to get him to cut to the chase.

(7,682 posts)Once I had a co-worker that called me and texted me all the time to talk about work.
This would happen sometimes before I clocked-in for work in the morning.
Sometimes it would be during my work hours.
90% of the time it would happen right after her shift ended and she was on her way home after 9pm.
Then she started to call me about work during my weekends off. I ended up putting her on block once she relieved me on Friday afternoons and until I clocked back in on Monday mornings.
Super annoying. I need downtime off work and she obviously didn't have enough common sense and decency to let people that are off the clock to stay off the clock.

(8,075 posts)Yes...... I have. More times than I could possibly count!
It totally depends on the time of day.
If it's in the morning, I need to go because I haven't had breakfast yet and if my blood sugar goes down I'll faint.
Mid-afternoon - Well, I better get out the door to run my errands.
Early evening - I need to go because I haven't had dinner yet and if my blood sugar goes down I'll faint.
Later evening-- Well, I'm so tired I need to go down for the night.
I'm really good with/on the phone and have had many wonderful conversations with various friends. But, if the conversation has run it's course or for some reason there's a struggle (meaning either one of us just isn't really in the mood to talk), I'm done.

(1,041 posts)I just discovered how much I bore people. I never call anyone but, when someone calls me, it seems they usually end the conversation with an excuse like bathroom, appointment, etc. I spend life without contact with anyone other than strangers on the Internet, so I have nothing interesting to say. Yet, I am thirsty to talk and have contact. Boring me!

know that even though I have to go, they continue to go on and on with their conversations Some people need to learn the art of conversation. It is not a one way street. but takes give and take. I have one family member that I tell that I have to use the bathroom. The conversation on her part continues. Being I don't like to pee myself, I put the phone down and run to the bathroom. She is still talking. Are you boring , I don't know you well enough to make that call.
My favorite excuse is the door one in fact. Sometimes I will say I forgot I have to go out.

(24,334 posts)have a different system. They just never answer their phones. They want you to text them, then they will answer your text anywhere from an hour to several days later if at all. I have over the years trained some of them that if that's what they want, they will never hear from me. Some of them do answer my calls now.
The other extreme is my wife has two sisters who don't live near us, and if they call they will talk for at least an hour, sometimes two hours. My wife usually doesn't mind and enjoys talking to them.
