We adopted Jake the Chihuahua two years ago from the shelter, and he immediately started following my wife around everywhere, and growling at me. Very protective, which is good, but also hilarious, since he's just ten pounds.
I've tried to reason with him, to no avail. Does no good to remind him who gives him breakfast, treats and walks.

I used to foster small dogs. Fostered a couple of Chihuahuas. At least one was identified as pesky but I did not have a problem. Got along fine with her.
