I'll still eat a bean burrito there now and then...

Now that I think about it, wasn't there quite a scandal recently involving them calling it beef? As in, it's not so don't?!!!

It never tasted quite as strange as the day that I ordered it after reading their sign entitled "Of course it's beef".

It went on to state that it was 88% beef, but they were quite vague on what the other 12% was.

and their "mild" sauce tastes better than their hotter ones.

I never order any of the "fancy" stuff anymore, burned by bleh tasting mush too many times in the past.

I didn't order crunch.

Haven't been able to go back since.

I was glad they opened up a Del Taco near me - after over a decade of TB being the only fast food Mexican around, we finally got a Del Taco. Now i'm tired of that too.

In my youth I worked for a pizza place that was a few doors down from a Taco Bell - we would often trade a pizza for some Taco Bell - one pie for bags and bags of food...we always laughed at them thinking we beat them in the deal but now I wonder...they probably could have doubled their items and still not been close to just our cheese cost for one large pizza....

While we have a LOT of authentic Mexican in our area, I know that in a pinch my guys will go for the bean burritos at Taco Bell.

What this area lacks is an independent fast food style Mexican place. My hometown had an awesome one, Pepe Tacos. It was real food, as opposed to what I consumed today.

My kids and their SO's, my granddaughter, the 'rents, a few from my regular group of friends, guys I've known for fifty years now, a few different other faces who randomly show up...usually about ten, twelve, fifteen of us, every Tuesday.

The people that are there on a regular basis warn the new guys not to order too much, even if they are really hungry, because they give you so much food it's silly.

And I've never had a bad meal, or bad service there once. Their food is how I measure all other Mexican restaurants, it is simple, fresh, and delicious.

I keep telling them that they need to bottle their salsa and start to market it as a premium product sold at a premium price. That stuff they make is awesome.

they have the only lard free food at a fast food window. Tortillas and beans without lard. That counts for something, especially when I am on the road.

Interestingly, my local TB bean burrito is still $1. But its more expensive at other locations. I've got a pretty heavily hispanic population around here so I wonder if they're trying to match local restaurant prices.

They did that here, tore it down around August 1st, and it reopened about Sept 10th.

Pretty amazing if you ask me. A lot of it was "prefab" I believe.

and knowing that should make it taste better, no?

The last time I gagged at one I made the mistake of asking the difference between a "beef" taco and a "steak" taco besides the 75 cents.

Taco Bell is one of the few fast food joints I now refuse to eat at even if starvation is an issue because I really don't trust their ingredients.
