(19,376 posts)Donnie Van Zant had a decent voice, but nowhere near the stage presence or charisma of his older brother Ronnie. I'm pretty sure Skynyrd's management got ahold of 38 Special and moved them to a more formulaic sound.
Blackfoot was formed in 1970, but never really hit their stride until the late '70's (lots of personnel changes), and by then the genre was falling out of favor. Train, Train was probably their best tune IMO.

(30,885 posts)Always thought that was cool.
Then again, if you listen to Free's "Fire And Water" and any Ronnie Skynyrd album...especially "Nuthin' Fancy"...you'll know "Southern Rock" is just a phrase coined by "rock journalists." There was a hell of a lot more Paul Rodgers in Ronnie than Gregg Allman.

(30,885 posts)I stayed a bit longer because I have a friend with an F-150 and a trailer who offered to help...only problem was that he couldn't do it until the 14th. Then I found a friend who was willing to accept a couple of bucks to help load the truck next Friday, so that I could leave tomorrow. I plan to head out around 4 AM, which...unless there are accidents or "incidents" along the way...should put me at my destination 9 hours later.

(6,261 posts)For personally, the last of the music from the seventies was Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall, which was also the last album in the genre of rock/pop I ever bought. After that, I lost myself in Classical, Baroque and Electronica. Sure, I was vaguely aware that people like Madonna existed, but they were dim shadows on the edge of my consciousness.
I've no regrets.
