I see that in a promo and a red flag just springs up.
The latest being this movie called "Possession."
The thing is, script writers, producers and directors can take a "true story" and embellish it up the yin yang, yet still call it "Based on a true story."
Oliver Stone is really notorious for doing this.
So now we've got yet another "possessed by demons" movie, embellished to the point of being 99.99999% fiction, but still "Based on a true story."

(46,354 posts)ANY of the "Amityville Horror" movies.
The originators of that story made up the whole thing just to cash in.
The house itself is still standing, and the current owners never see anything weird.
Except when "Amityville Horror" groupies show up.

I always think of George M. Cohen after watching an alleged biopic Yankee Doodle Dandy he remarked that it was a swell picture but who was it about?
