Anybody know what this is?

I came across this at a rummage sale recently. I'm not a religious person at all, but it looked really interesting, so I went ahead and picked it up. To me, it looks like it could a hand-carved African style piece, but I'm not really sure. I have no idea where I'd even take it to have it looked at to see if it could possibly be worth anything.

I meant if someone knew specifically what it was - ie, if it could be from a particular person, region, etc.

I've seen plenty of Virgin Mary statuettes over the years, but this is the first time I'd seen one like this.

Kinda gave me a "Storage Wars" type feeling coming across it.
