Why is it that more and more my DVD player can't play the newer DVDs? Just purchased the Hunger Games and neither DVD can read it. Maybe I bought the wrong one? It is a 3 Disc Deluxe for digital and Streaming.

(59,305 posts)not sure whats wrong, except have you run a disc cleaner through your DVD machine lately? That might work. I'm upset that they didn't release a DVD/Blu ray combo pack for HG.

You might try cleaning the laser with a q-tip.

(47,675 posts)This won't be true if it has a printed side, but if the writing is just on the inner circle, I've had discs that were recorded on the wrong side from the printing - like the entire first season of the original Star Trek set. Curiously, seasons two and three were recorded on the correct side. The other thing to check is that it is a "region 1" disc. Players in the US and Japan will NOT play "region 2" discs (everywhere else).

(46,736 posts)Last night I complained to my husband that our DVD player was outdated and the reason why it wasn't reading the disk was because the disk was developed by current standards.
So when I got back from the store I sheepishly told him I was 50% right.
