I know I got a tetanus shot about 9 years ago, but I read an article in teh NYTimes suggesting that all adults should have a whooping cough booster.

(12,272 posts)Tetanus is usually every ten years, so go get a DPT from your provider. DPT is diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.

(3,813 posts)I can't remember what I had as a tetanus shot last decade, but at the Doctor's last week I mentioned that I was due for one, and he recommended the TDAP. Arm was sore for about two full days afterwards, but no other ill effects. Since I work on farms quite a bit, I'm glad to be up to date again.

Most adults can handle pertussis or whooping cough, but they could inadvertently pass it on to an infant that is not fully immunized yet, and that can be life threatening to the infant.
