Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHas anyone tried cleaning the lens on a blu-ray player? My Sony BDP S350 will no longer play blu-ray
discs. I was on the phone with Sony for almost an hour yesterday which was an exercise in futility. The firmware is up to date, and I did a factory reset to no avail. A buddy suggested that the lens may need cleaning. I hate the thought of spending the bucks for a new one.
Any help is sincerely appreciated.

(12,132 posts)but you used to be able to get a cleaning disc for CD (and I think DVD) players that was basically a CD with a small section of whiskers that gently brushed off the lens as it spun around...
if it's just a dust problem in there small bursts of compressed air might help too.

(12,132 posts)it's a much smaller kajigger than than a CD lens...
this says it's for BD-R and DVD: http://shopper.cnet.com/removable-media/maxell-blu-ray-lens/4014-3214_9-33179184.html
but still, I'd research the efficacy and safety - they can probably claim damn near anything and nobody will stop them...

(33,256 posts)However,if it is still playing dvds and cds, your blu ray laser may be kaput. A bluray player has 3 different lasers in the mech (one of BR,one for DVD and one for Cd) all in the optical pickup assembly. Just clean the lense.
This is what a typical pickup will look like. Clean any residue seen on the little lense.
