... find each other in the wee hours of the a.m.

Just an hour ago, found some songs by a long-time friend on YouTube. He recorded them back in '69 or '70 when we were both in our early twenties. My then-husband owned a recording studio, and Don walked in one day with his guitar, and my husband wound up signing him to his label and recorded an LP of Don's original tunes.

Don lived a few blocks away, in a tiny house he shared with three other guys - we became close friends, and I often spent hours there.

The thing was that with four guys sharing a house, housekeeping was not a big priority.

So listening to his songs just now, I was immediately reminded of my times at Don's place. There was always a pot of coffee brewing - but I would have to fish through a sink full of dirty dishes to find a coffee mug.

And Don would always say the same thing: "I really should wash some cups."

It was just so strange to come to DU and find your post within minutes of reliving that memory.

Don, being a struggling singer/songwriter, probably didn't have any bedroom slippers - because if he'd owned a pair, I'm sure he would have offered them as a viable substitute for a washed coffee cup.

I had a friend in college who was making an oil & vinegar salad dressing but was out of oil. So he used 3-in-1. He said if it's good enough for his machines (he collected old typewriters and sewing machines) it was good enough for him.

At the gas station down the street, you get a free cup of coffee with 20 bucks of gas. So, I've been saving the paper cups, rinse em out and been using them all week. She'll freakout to find out I didn't break one coffee cup while she was gone.
