Yesterday And Today: On the weekend I was sorting through our LPs. My wife was looking up the

value of some on the Internet. She came across "Yesterday And Today" paste over". She bought her Y&T in Vancouver in 1966. It had all the earmarks a of the album covers that had the "trunk" photo pasted over the original "butcher" pic. She took the album with her on a business trip to Los Angeles on Monday. She just called. She visited one of our old neighbors (total vinyl freak) in Woodland Hills. He confirmed that the album is an original paste over and offered her $500.00 for it. Damn cool!

I doubt that she'll sell it. Not sure, but I think the "trunk" photo was taken first. ohiosmith Jul 2012 #2

Reminds me of Spinal Tap's "Sniff the Glove" cover that got replaced with a solid black cover. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #6

OH the brouhaha. That kind of thing was not done. It was the apocalypse in technicolor. Of course when I grew up I thought it was incredibly bold. And it was.

They look so much happier as butchers.

Tell her to check and see if it's not worth more.

In the music room, I found a badly-crumpled poster of that album cover. I took it to an art supply
store (that also framed artwork) and they restored it PERFECTLY and mounted it on a 2"-thick piece
of styrofoam.
.
I got home with it, put it on my couch and went into the bathroom for less than 5 minutes. When
I came out, one of my two cats (until my last cat, NoName, the only cats I ever named... just so
friends would know which cat I was talking about -- Greycat or BlackCat) had gone to town on the
styrofoam (and, of course, the poster) with her claws.
.
I didn't get over at being mad at BOTH of them (so I could make sure I was mad at the guilty party)
for MINUTES!!!
.
I'm pretty sure the "trunk" picture was the second choice... as they recalled all unsold first printings
and pasted it over the "butcher" picture because of a public outcry. I'm also pretty sure the Beatles
were very much in support of the first picture as a statement of what the marketers and labels had
done to and with their music (their "children&quot -- butchered it.

I was watching a morning news show in the 90's and saw a vinyl-collecting expert who mentioned
that Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma" album had a similar paste-over incident. The pic below is the
original (kind of an "Inception-like" cover with a picture in a picture in a picture). Note the "Gigi"
album leaning against the wall. The label was sued for not getting permission to display that. All
subsequent printings had the "Gigi" album cover simply whited-out, but they recalled the first
printing and pasted a whited-out cover over the original.
.
Any original cover was worth about $250 at the time. I looked... and indeed, mine was an original
(I left it and about 100 other vinyl albums behind during a subsequent move that I hadn't expected
to be permanent).
.
Although "Dark Side of the Moon", "Meddle", "Animals" and "Delicate Sound of Thunder" are WAY
up there in my favorite-ever albums, I was and am not a big fan of early Floyd, but one night,
in '71 or '72, a bunch of us were listening to it REALLY stoned while playing Monopoly at 2 AM.
The song about "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving
with a Pict" came on, with its subtle and slow building of bird and animal noises... and we were all
DUMFOUNDED at how quickly dawn had crept up on us.
.
DUMFOUNDED = REALLY stoned. It was, after all... 2 AM.
