This shit would not fly in Mayberry

Since Andy's passing I've been thinking about the things we now are forced to tolerate that would not be accepted in Mayberry.

I've been calling my Dr's office for a week and a half to get a refill on a prescription. I get "she's with patients and has been told" or " I'll pass that along to her" and then nothing happens, no script no callback. I call back later and they've closed for the day or for the holiday. The drug I need is one that you're not supposed to abruptly stop, but when I ran out I did.

If she did this to Aunt Bee, Ernest T would have already thrown a rock through her window and a crowd led by Floyd would have run her out of town.

This is but one instance of the institutionalized rudeness that is so pervasive in our society.

What other shit that we tolerate would not have flown in Mayberry?

I can't wait till other corporations begin using drones for everything. The PepsiCo drone that coupon-bombs a stadium with flyers for the new Pepsi Max, the PapaJohn drone that shoots a pizza at your front door, or the Terminex drone that shoots lasers at mosquitos. Drones, not plastics, are the future my friend.

in some places the doc offices prefer to get calls from the pharmacists because
they can immediately authorize the refills. If YOU call, the doc office then
has to place a call to the pharmacy.

But I'm talking big picture too. If you hate people, don't get a job where people look to you for help. Become a lab rat somewhere. Drs deal with people at their lowest, most desperate points.

The FP I've been going to for 5 years--that I really liked and LOVED you could ALWAYS
get a same day appointment if sick--quit practice and went to work in research.
His partners started a 'concierge' practice. Yeah, pay for the privilege of being
able to get an appointment.

Our health care system is really screwed up and dysfunctional.

Sorry you're having so much trouble just trying to get a refill!

It's almost like you have to be rude to get any notice from rude people, and thats a damn shame

I called one private office this afternoon--not taking any new patients.

Have resorted to trying out the Family Practice Program at UNC.
You can request appointments on-line (and Rx refills on-line)
so we'll see whether the doc I chose is taking new patients
and whether they respond to my on-line appointment request.
I'm not in any hurry to find someone new--but I figure I better
be in the system when I NEED an appointment.

if worse comes to worse, I'll drive two hours and go to the Dr who my dad has been seeing for 25+ years. The disease is rare for white men, and on top of that they are working to show genetic tags for the disease. Me and my dad are both white dudes and I would think people would want to study us. Side note: my poor brother is paranoid and worried that he'll get it too, but shows no signs. You'd think we'd be a good case study for someone.

Pharmacy makes one call and moves on to other things when they get no answer. I keep calling or fax until I get results. And my doctor's office has their "out of office" recording set to not take messages. That's when the fax comes in handy. It a major chore to get refills authorized sometimes.

Opie and his friend Arnold are having fun with their new tape recorder.
Andy warns them not to intrude on people's privacy however. When Andy
and the State police arrest a suspected bank robber, Eddie Blake, the boys
tape his private conversation with his lawyer where he admits to the crime
and reveals where he hid the $25,000 he stole. Opie wants to tell his father
but Andy flatly refuses to listen pointing out that they have
violated one of the most fundamental rights in law.
