I love cats, but I own dogs, so I don't have many cat stories. Since I have a new one I thought I would share.
So I pull off the expressway on my way to work today, same as always, and come to a stop at the red light at the end of the ramp. I hear this funny squeaking sound but since I am in traffic I don't think to much about it. I then make my turn and continue to the next red light and then I hear the squeaking again. Strange since I am not near the same cars anymore and it only starts squeaking when I stop. I turn off the air, turn down the radio and open my window a little. The sound is now obviously a kitten 'meowing' a cry for help.
By now the light has turned green and I am still in traffic so I don't have any choice. I continue the last quarter mile or so to where I park for work. I had already traveled about 12 miles so I figured the last quarter mile couldn't make any difference.
This silly little 8 or 9 week old kitten had crawled up above the gas tank of my truck and stayed there the entire trip.
I took a few minutes to coax, and them pull, the kitten out from it's spot and checked to make sure it wasn't hurt. It was panic stricken and tried to make a run for it but I kept hold and took it into work with me.
I'll skip ahead since this is already longer than I intended...
I figured I would just take her back home with me and leave it where I normally park my truck so she could find her way home. I parked on the street, just to not have a vehicle anywhere near the thing when I let it go, and when I started walking up my driveway one of my neighbors cried out "Hey, that's my cat!". So I gave her to them and then told my neighbors the story before going back to work.
I guess this kinda makes me the anti-Romney. Instead of a dog on the roof I had a cat in the undercarriage. Only about 12 miles instead of 1,200 (and for me it was unintentional). It was a strange way to start the day.
Sorry no pics, I was to shocked at the time to think about such a thing.

Several times over the years I've heard of a kitten climbing under the hood to get warm, or out of the rain. Sometimes it has not ended well.
So happy for you and the kitten that the kitten's unplanned wild ride had a happy ending!

I'm glad you found it!

That story didn't end well.
This one was in a tiny little space above the gas tank. Only a little kitten could climb up there. No moving parts to hurt it but I bet the ride was terrifying.
