The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOur cat Bermuda crossed the Rainbow Bridge about 8 PM tonight.
He loved canoodling with his humans, introducing himself to random strangers, belly rubs, snoozing in desk chairs, begging for food at dinnertime, and helping dad with jobs around the home. It might be awhile before I can watch and comment on pet videos since my heart is seriously broken.

(9,897 posts)The time we share with our pets is precious and the loss just as deep as when we lose any other loved ones. I hope your spirit finds solace in the fact that you provided a loving and safe environment for Bermuda. His pics remind me of our own Schmoo. May your grief be short and your memories long.

(3,438 posts)...companion? finally got the last kiddo out of house, bought his own..no carpools, getting up early for school or work --can finally just be, do what I want, when I want--has never had a pet so it waa an adjustment!
Fast forward 4 yrs..little puppy needed me as much as i needed him..especially with covid19 restrictions, family can't visit as often..so he is my company-- gets me out of bed at 7am, reminds me to take him outside for a walk in the middle of the day, doesnt mind if I take a short afternoon nap and right now, he's cuddling next to me while I'm watching late movie.
So have to thank my son for bringing me this little dog--I get now, that is, how peoole get attach to their pets. They become a part of the family; they give uncondtional love.
Take care. Paz

(25,973 posts)I hope you take this in the spirit it is intended. My son and his wife adopted a 4-month-old DSH today. My grandson, 3, has named him Ellis (nobody has a clue where that comes from). I just wanted to demonstrate continuity, which I think we can all use in times like this.

(7,659 posts)And also for the unconditional support is much appreciated.
I spent the earlier portion of today cleaning and disinfecting the walls and floors. If a person has ever adopted a cat with FIV into their home, they will know what I'm referring to, it's pretty much projectile snot-flinging that lands everywhere from when they sneeze. I also washed the couch cover, along with Bermuda's sports blanket and placed his blanket on the back of the couch in it's usual spot, where he would look out the window.
We should be receiving his ashes in about 2 weeks. I've been looking online for a container to place his ashes in and found some really nice and inexpensive decorative wooden boxes at Michael's, which they are currently sold out this type of decorative box, so I'll have to look elsewhere. We spent thousands of dollars over the years on his FIV diagnoses and medical care, another $1,000 of his recent biopsy that resulted in a lymphoma diagnosis and another $400 on last night's veterinarian and cremation bill. If anyone could direct me towards an affordable urn type container it would be appreciated. I can always upgrade later when money isn't so tight.
I'm keeping an eye out on our other cat Moppet because she's been cautiously rounding corners like she's expecting Bermuda to be there. She didn't really eat her 4:00 PM wet dinner, but I'll give her some time as she might be mourning Bermuda too.

(14,933 posts)Love that first fun photo, and his name.
One of my good friends lost her handsome boy (black cat, as well) a month ago so I've been supporting her.
I guess maybe give your other fur kid some extra cuddles. Sorry, again.
