(118,677 posts)is out. Not too hot outside. No wind (mine or the outside kind). Batteries and whole unit is new. I can't figure it out.

But really they can beep when they don't like the battery or the battery is going to die.

(9,904 posts)and they have monds of their own. NEVER 'YELP' during the day, always begin upstairs, by the bedrooms at around 230am. WITH NO replacment battery in the house!

(9,904 posts)sometimes taking out the battery and reseating it works, sometimes not. And sometimes it happens with fresh batteries as well.
Have now goe 2 months without a CHIRP! knock on wood,,,,,

(16,334 posts)they were old and new batteries didn't help. Drove us INSANE because it happened at all hours of the night.
