on a payday. Good thing I checked my account first thing Monday mornng & discovered it.
We figure they got my pin by using a machine where they stand off to the side & can read the #s you key in at a service station, OR, from a merchant's computer system. I learned that when you key in your pin # at a merchant, it STAYS in their system & is recorded there, and it can be obtained by hackers. They didn't get it from MY records; I didn't even have it written down anywhere.
Thank goodness the bank knew it wasn't me. I'm in TX; the withdrawals were in CA, and I have only one card. I went to the bank Monday morning & showed them my card. The bank had increased the max. allowed to be withdrawn, which I had not known. AND, over the weekend, the max is supposed to apply to all the days combined, not the max. each day of a weekend.
My bank reimbursed me, thank goodness. I got a new card. I no longer use the debit part of the card, except at a BANK atm on a rare occasion.
It's scary & really upsetting.
Whether you bank online or not, your accounts are online already. When you bank online, you are merely accessing what's there already.
My brother just had a scumbag relative steal his card and use it fraudently. He's off the hook, because he had reported it beforehand. The credit card isn't on the hook, either. The store shouldn't have accepted teh card without asking for a driver's license in the name of the card.
