This is weird. We just found out today that one of our friends had died, too. Bad day for this.

She was a successful musician and conductor in her own right, although her very famous husband (Theodore Bikel) sometimes overshadowed that. She was a wonderful, warm, and unbelievably talented person. Tamara died suddenly of a heart attack last month while in Texas (of all places).

With Tamara and Theo in New York just prior to Theo's 85th birthday concert three years ago:

She helped keep Theo young, too. At 88, he is still touring and singing all over the world. At his 85th birthday thing at Carnegie Hall, he played with Tom Paxton and Arlo Guthrie, just to name a couple. Tamara was a classical musician, so she performed in different circles, but they were devoted to each other. I heard from another mutual friend today, and Theo is understandably devastated. I will try to call him in the next week, although he has hundreds of friends right there in California. The guy starred in films with Humphrey Bogart, for Pete's sake, he knows EVERYBODY. It still won't bring Tamara back, though, and I'm sure he's only too aware of it.

My condolences to all who loved her...

This is surely the downside to loving someone over many decades...you know one of you will die first, and the pain from that can be overwhelming...

It is a sad and scary thing.
