A dog with a routine, and he's sticking to it, no matter what. And everybody loves him for it.

That would not be possible with dogs where I live, because we have a leash ordinance. But it is possible and does happen with cats. I used to have some neighbors who had an orange tabby cat named Lacy. She would come next door to my house every day to visit me, and I always welcomed her and really enjoyed her visits. Maybe she had mercenary motivations, because I always gave her something to eat when she came over. That was happening so much that my neighbors offered to help me pay for the cat food, but I told them no, I love Lacy and she is welcome and I really enjoy her visits.

Lacy was very vocal and communicative. She always meowed up a storm when she came over. I've always thought that cats who are that vocal are very intelligent and aware. It's like they're trying to talk to you and their attempts to communicate with you are producing the only sounds that they can produce that come closest to the vocal communication sounds that they hear humans producing. They are trying to mimic those human communication sounds, in other words. That shows a level of awareness of purpose that belies a high level of intelligence. Does that make sense?

I ran into those neighbors at Gerbes (grocery store) a few weeks before the current plague began. If I ever see them again, I'll ask them how my feline friend Lacy is. But that's unlikely, because I am staying mostly in the house now.

day visiting the neighbors. He's so adorable! I grew up in a town like that where dogs would just go visiting and people would invite them in until they wanted to go back out again. There was one particular dog we nicknamed "The Mayor", because he would just make the rounds every day and everyone knew him. I just love doggies!
