I turned 49 within the last hour. How the fuck am I 49? I mean, I graduated from high school like, 10 years ago at best! I got married 5 years ago (21 years ago). How the fuck am I 49? I mean....really! How the fuck am I 49? Its fucking baffling man. The way time travels...it just seems to catch you by surprise the older you get.
Dont get me wrong, this shock has been going on for awhile. I look at friends I havent seen in awhile or pics from high school reunions and think, how in gods name am I the same age as these people!
Granted, I never had kids so I still have my hair and its still, minus 10-15 strands, its original color. But damn! How am I as old as these old looking fuckers? Right? Its a puzzling thing.
But hey, Ive definitely seen some interesting changes in my life. Cell phones, internet, cable tv, gay marriage, hot pockets, etc, etc, etc.
Ya know, I wouldnt take much back, its just...how did it happen so fast?

(27,818 posts)... wait until you hit 70.
That's when you'll look back and realize just how young 49 is.

(11,802 posts)Heaven forbid! Im still holding on to my teen ideas that 30 is old and 70 is dead!
All kidding aside, thanks for putting things in perspective Nance. Its just crazy that suddenly Im like, 50.....

(27,818 posts)Old age is something that happens to other people. It's never going to happen to you - until it does.
I finally stopped saying "It sucks getting old" just a scant few months ago - and started admitting that it sucks being old, because I am not on my way to old age - I am already there.
I am reminded of a time when my Aunt Marie read the obituary of a high school classmate in the local paper. "He was SO young," she said - her old friend having died at 42.
My cousins and I laughed about that for years - imagine thinking that 42 was 'young'!

(11,802 posts)The hard part of accepting it is I was getting hit on by girls less than half my age as little as 5 years ago. I cant be that old if 20 year olds are still hot for me right? Yeah, that shits been dropping off, Nance. Not awesome!

(27,818 posts)The last time I was hit on was by a young gentleman at a bar. He was in his 30s, and didnt understand why me being in my 40s was a problem. I was 60 at the time.
I still remember the day I went from Ill give you whatever you need, sweetie to How can I help you, maam.
So youre older youre also wiser, more informed, more self-aware AND more interesting a person than youve ever been in your entire life.
You are full of experiences and the lessons learned therefrom. You know a million funny stories and you arent afraid to tell them.
I sometimes wish for the physical stamina I had when I was young but I never forget the strength that comes from having seen so many positive changes during the lifetime I have already lived.
So be yourself however old or young you are.

(11,802 posts)Sorry if I inadvertently offended. Just saying that 70 to an 18 year old is well...the end. Now I find myself closer to 70 than 18.

Talk about time flying! Over the years as I have seen my boys grow up into awesome adults .... its so funny how they have done that while I havent aged one bit! Well mentally, anyway. Bwaahahahahaha
Hope you find a way to celebrate during these strange times. Youre still just a babe ....

(23,764 posts)While I'm amazed at where the time went and how quickly the last 20 years seem to go by in the blink of an eye, it leaves me to ponder how quickly the next 20 years will whiz by and if I'll even have that much time left.
Most of my family's last generation lived to their 90's. Given that, we'll see.
Life life to its fullest and as they say, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

(6,261 posts)Each year, even a bastard year like this one, flies by faster than the year before.
Possibly because each year becomes a smaller percentage of your life the older you get.
