Turning in my notice tomorrow.

I’m in Florida and was hired in June by the school district to work as a counselor this coming school year. They just voted to open up like everything’s all hunky dory. They sent out a survey that had half the kids going two days, the other half going two days and all do virtual one day. But that apparently wasn’t really an option. They say 60% of teachers are all in. There’s so many Trumpsters here that’s probably true. The kids are supposed to wear a mask on the bus. Like that’s going to happen. I was hoping reason would prevail but apparently not. I guess they missed what happened in Israel. I can manage without the money. I’m 59 and it’s just not worth it.

in an unhealthy situation. At your age you have science behind such a decision as you are in a risk group.

They're saying it's OK for kids to go back to school as they're not in a risk group. Well, the other side of that rationale is you are in a risk group.

for 6 months, probably longer, but change is on the way.

If not before - counting today there are 111 days until election day.
Not counting November 3.

And counting today there are 189 days until January 20, 2021.
Not counting January 20, inauguration day.

Best of luck and life to you.

I read that a ton of teachers are opting to leave and get an early retirement if possible. There won't be enough experienced teachers to replace them and districts don't have the $$$ resources to hire them at this time. Good luck getting substitutes too!

inspiring for others who are weighing their decisions and lead them to similar outcomes. You are leading by example and there is unlimited power in that.

I would not teach under such conditions. We know kids and know that they are not going to comply with all the restrictions. Everyone is at risk, including teachers, staff, bus drivers, etc. It’s very irresponsible to send so many vulnerable adults into that situation.

Especially in Florida. They are living in fantasyland to think this is safe.

I suspect there will be plenty of opportunity to teach remotely, or tutor, if you want to.

The meeting was on FB and you wouldn’t believe the comments. Teachers saying “ Our kids are strong! We got this” Parents complaining about the kids having to wear masks on the bus. Based on how few masks I see around here the buses are going to be Petri dishes on wheels.

CDC hasn't been able to identify some of the creepy crawlies they picked up over summer.

As for wearing masks on the bus You're damn lucky if they stay in the seats.

Hand salute for refusing to put your life on line because Moron wants a up tick on employment numbers ahead of the election.

Unless FL is different, there's no benefits like insurance. The only bennie is your day usually isn't tied up. IMO the 'benefits' aren't worth the risk.

training materials. Easy-peasy. I’ve been reading the posts on FB from parents to the school district post about wearing masks and a lot are asking about doctors notes so their child doesn’t have to wear a mask. They’ll be closed down within a month.

challenges may follow. Nothing could be worse than staying there. Onward!!

It is hard to comprehend the degree of ignorance and irresponsible behavior of both the school system and the parents. It is sheer madness.

Hard to grasp that so much of our leadership and others in the USA are so stupid. One would think professionals would know better. You are admirable for working in a school with kids.

Looks to me like some are looking to kill or damage the old, sick, disabled, poor, and POC disproportionately and expect to survive with secured political control and economic opportunity in the vacuum. May they be wrong and deterred.
