I go to my bank atm and get some cash for the lawn-mowing man, but I don't think I can get $10's, 5's and 1's. I wanted to have small bills for tips, and kids' birthday cards. I'm not going out to shop, and I've been trying to avoid getting cash back at window transactions (such as playing Powerball), so I don't have to handle anything more than I have to. Any ideas? Thanks!

(149,699 posts)So I choose that option and talk to the teller, who gives me the denominations I want.
Maybe you have an option like that.

(23,741 posts)I usually apologize and tell them I don't have anything smaller, and that's the truth.

(7,947 posts)But for years, I've saved change to use for parking meters, and I save $1s for panhandlers (yes, I give them a bit sometimes).
These days, paying for almost everything with plastic, I can go days and days without breaking a $20.

(16,856 posts)The ones down here have machines that break down bills. Stick in a 20, get four fives, stick in a five, get five ones. You can also get change at a cashier's window. I don't play at casinos anymore, but I do go in and get change sometimes.

(16,856 posts)They would be easier to access than a casino. It's a good idea, if you have the money, to buy change when you go to the bank. If you want ones for too money, for instance, just buy 100 at the bank and keep them at the house. That should be enough tip money to last a little while.

(17,018 posts)I told them I had work for them, and told them it was rolling the coins. I think they both got about $40. They were delighted with that job Their Dad saw the rolled coins in their kitchen and asked about them. My grandson said he'd done some work for Grandma. Dad says, "Wow. What kind of work did you do?" And my grandson said, "Rolled those coins." I was glad to see that conversation. lol I'll let them do it again, but not building up coins as fast as I used to.

(3,601 posts)That's it. Because of how my credit union posts purchases, I like to leave tips in cash. Hard to do when all you have is 20s.

(9,909 posts)Gave users options on withdrawal breakdowns.
Example - 2 months ago, if you wanted $100 youd get 2 Grants. Only way to get 20s, the lowest denomination would be 3 withdrawals, of $40,$40,$20. Pain in backside
Today I noticed options on how you wanted it
