The Great, an occasionally true story (not exactly historically accurate, so don't be disappointed about that) is an American comedy miniseries loosely based on the rise of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia. The series stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult in lead roles, the Empress and Emperor of Russia, respectively. Just released on Hulu last week. I am finding it quite addictive and very entertaining. See reviews below. If you don't have plans for the long weekend, it would make a great binge watch, if you go for this sort of thing. It's exactly my cup of tea.

If you are watching, what do you think? I have read and watched quite a bit on Russian history, and as long as you don't expect historical accuracy, I think you will find it quite engaging. I am not bored for a moment and there is much humor to be found in the series. Production values are very high quality.

(15,823 posts)Excellent so far. Only 3 episodes in. I love this time to watch shows we normally wouldnt. Have to give The Great a shot when done. Thank you for the recommendation.

(12,132 posts)So we will be watching in the near future.
I've only heard good things about the show and Elle and Nick.

(63,221 posts)Nick is amazing and Elle just transforms from an innocent, naive princess into a woman with a mission and a vendetta. It is easy to be on her side after the way he treats her. I won't say any more.

(16,847 posts)I'm several episodes into it, and I've laughed all the way through it. It's a nice break from all the drama in the news.

(63,221 posts)Huzzah! Isn't it? All that broken glass! Just what I feel like doing every time I see Trump on TV!

(16,847 posts)And how much they drank! No wonder their army lost all the time. I think it was pretty normal for that class of people at that time. I can't help but think about the people who had to sweep up all the glass.
