Trump Makes a Cookie Great Again
Makers of an old malaria drug arent the only ones cheering Trumps surprise statement Monday that he takes it regularly to ward off coronavirus. A cookie company also got a boost, and it wasnt the first time.
Perhaps it was autocomplete, or maybe people were just unsure how to spell hydroxychloroquine, but Google searches for Hydrox cookies took off immediately. The cookies are similar to Oreos, but were discontinued by Kellogg in 2003.
Well before coronavirus was a story, though, Hydrox already had gotten a boost from candidate Trump when he lambasted Oreo maker Mondelez International for moving some jobs to Mexico. I love Oreos, Ill never eat them again, he said at a 2015 campaign rally. There was a brief campaign to boycott the brand and the look-alike was revived by Leaf Brands that same year.
The very first question on Hydroxs Amazon page: Do these cookies help make America great again? Possibly, but Amazon lists Hydrox as only the 26th bestselling sandwich cookie with 18 varieties of Oreos ahead of it. Their taste and ability to hold together in a glass of milk are matters of fierce debate. It should come as little surprise, though, that most people prefer the cookie that doesnt sound like you need a prescription to eat it.
