Most are dormant. Did you know there was an ancient ring of fire in the gulf coast states?
Jackson, MS is largely built in a caldera, or blown out volcano. Also, Albuquerque, NM.
There may be one near you.

There is an old volcano in Austin, TX.
I read about it, I think it's just some granite.
None in South Texas though
