(47,486 posts)2. Watched it about a week after Manchester by the Sea
Both, and/or the actors were Oscar contenders.
Manchester was a downer but Hidden Figures were uplifting.

Im a long time admirer of Octavia Spencer and for a long time I wanted her to be in the starring role and I got my wish in Self Made as Madame C J Walker. I learned about Madam C J Walker when I took womens history in college and often wondered why she wasnt well known by everyone. So I am delighted they finally made a movie of her. She was an amazing woman, a hundred years ahead of her time in business acumen. That Olivia Spencer played the role is so perfect and gratifying!

Saw it at the theater with my democratic group. Lunch afterwards. It was a great day.
