Or do they? Are they okay with rabies, distemper, feline leukemia, etc.? Are they okay with receiving citations for non-compliance?
Same argument with those who don't believe in medical doctors. What do they do when they get a toothache? Do they visit a dentist or tough it out? Do they knock the tooth out with a figure skate and a coconut ala Tom Hanks?

(3,370 posts)There are a lot of rabid anti-vaxxers in the pet care world. I'm a retired vet tech and I've seen it all with these people.

(20,499 posts)have more than a handful of cattle/sheep/etc? You know, the ones that actually depend on their livestock for a living.
My guess (and only a guess!) is that the more your livelihood depends on your cattle not getting hoof and mouth disease, the more likely you are to vaccinate your herd.

(3,370 posts)I can't recall any of our farmer clients denying vaccines. There was (still is?) an issue of some farmers buying and administering their own vaccines - vets were worried about the sourcing of said vaccines. It's been a long time since I was in large animal medicine, but the majority of clients on that end were very compliant.
Now, when you get to small animal medicine with pets, that's where you find more anti-vaxx sentiments. It was way more common with dog owners, especially breeders.

Perceived risk can be very influential.

The topic of anti-vaxxers is one that rears it's ugly head quite often.
