The old frontspieces of books were done similarly, but with oil paints instead of ink.

this process is exactly the method used to 'marbleize' frontispieces on books. I teach it.

After watching your vid in the OP - I ended up on YouTube for about two hours last night watching videos regarding Suminagashi, Ebru, and even Water Marbling FINGERNAILS with fingernail polish!!! LOL

One can use it for marbling fabric as well.
