Is it true that Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) approved by FDA

Last edited Sat Mar 21, 2020, 04:17 AM - Edit history (1)

to treat Coronavirus patients? That was what the Asian community is spreading on Facebook and Messenger. I thought this is a lie from Trump, and if this is only a complete lie, it would be extremely dangerous and has potential to kill people. The Asian community really believes in this and has shared with everyone through social media.

up, but here is one that has been in use for decades, is cheap, has few side effects when dosage controlled, and at least in my opinion is better than nothing if I’m hospitalized tomorrow with poor prognosis otherwise.

There's an old saying that someone acting as their own lawyer has a fool for a client. I can imagine that the same is true for people acting as their own physician.

Administering for off label purposes by doctors.

FDA Compassionate Authorization to cross label administer pharmaceuticals for other purposes than for which originally assigned.

Study up on Milinoxidil - this was originally intended for a high blood pressure medication. High blood pressure patients and their doctors realized it caused hair growth (in areas of male pattern baldness).

A locally applied ointment was bottled by the drug manufacturer now the Milinoxidil in ointment form is labeled Rogaine. Found by accident, not the original intended purpose.

But it can still be prescribed for corona virus patients (off label use). Whether it works against corona virus of not remains to be determined.
