Time to talk door locks and bolts.

Does anyone have recommendations for the most effective and discrete locks and/or bolts? I know these things only buy you time if someone is determined. But that time may raise your chances of survival.

2. I've been thinking of doing it for quite a while.

I will PM the reasons if you want to know. But now that I have time to put it on the front burner, I was hoping someone out there knew about some product that wasn't too Omega Man looking.

the bears are waking up and will be on my porch looking for food soon... if they get into my back room (where I store all my grains, misc. food, etc.) it will be a mess

inspired concerns

I have never locked my doors up here in the back woods of Vermont, but my back door doesn't even seem to latch of late... so until I can get a new door in, it will have to be a deadbolt

seriously, the bears here are smart... probably smarter than some of those scoundrels that you are worried about

than anyone intending to rob me. And no amount of hardware will stop that.

I wish there was a universal body signal that we can use to stop accidental shootings from a police swat team. For now, my go to choice would be dropping on the ground and hitting a splayed pose. But that's assuming I recognize that it's a police swat team.

8. I'd fall flat on top of my dog, who is the dog LEAST LIKEY to ever be a threat to a human

(she is absolutely devoid of any fear or suspicion of humans in her zeal for affection)

but, cops seem to have little consideration nor the ability to think when they are engaged in these kinds of raids.

9. That is so true. The dogs will be vulnerable.

I still don't know how my dogs would respond. They might bark to warn me that someone is sneaking up to the door, but maybe they would run once they saw the swat team in full gear?
