Does anyone have recommendations for the most effective and discrete locks and/or bolts? I know these things only buy you time if someone is determined. But that time may raise your chances of survival.

(22,757 posts)the bears are waking up and will be on my porch looking for food soon... if they get into my back room (where I store all my grains, misc. food, etc.) it will be a mess

I have never locked my doors up here in the back woods of Vermont, but my back door doesn't even seem to latch of late... so until I can get a new door in, it will have to be a deadbolt
seriously, the bears here are smart... probably smarter than some of those scoundrels that you are worried about

(46,756 posts)I wish there was a universal body signal that we can use to stop accidental shootings from a police swat team. For now, my go to choice would be dropping on the ground and hitting a splayed pose. But that's assuming I recognize that it's a police swat team.

but, cops seem to have little consideration nor the ability to think when they are engaged in these kinds of raids.

(46,756 posts)I still don't know how my dogs would respond. They might bark to warn me that someone is sneaking up to the door, but maybe they would run once they saw the swat team in full gear?
