(47,675 posts)One of my favorite things to do is sit near the garden and watch the bees working the flowers, well, that and looking at my wife in short-shorts and a tank top.

(47,675 posts)Well, and birds. Most of the bees are bumbles, but we do get quite a few honey bees because we don't poison our lawn and have a lot of clover. There's a female hummingbird that likes our mimosa tree when it is in bloom. The garden has all kinds of butterfly/bee/hummingbird plants in it, as does the rest of the yard. Our yard is an oasis in the neighborhood. Most of them are homogeneous poisoned lawns with too much nitrogen and are cut too short every week. It's no wonder the critters like our yard instead of theirs. We have food of every kind for them. The only critter I don't like is the European hornet. Otherwise, they are all welcome (but the dogs DO chase the bunnies out of the garden). Wait, one more. The catbirds eat the blueberries. I'm not pleased with that.
