and turns out my breast lump is just a benign cyst! I had two sisters who had (one passed away) breast cancer so I am relieved beyond belief...just had to share my good news.

(23,337 posts)The stress of waiting to know one way or the other is immense. I had a lumpectomy in my left breast in 2017 that ended up being negative for cancer. I am so happy you got good news.

Not breasts in my case, but ovaries, with a family history, too.
So CELEBRATE!
And continue check-ups to keep on top of it.

(58,694 posts)I'm actually a skin cancer survivor. It was minor, but just hearing the words was ice in my veins scary.
I got off easy with a simple excision and didn't even get chemo or other follow-up, other than regular visits to dermatology.

(15,550 posts)Had a lump removed that turned out to be benign about 20 years ago. Have had zero issues since then. But I can remember clearly how the waiting for the results was the worst thing I'd been through. My mother died of breast cancer when she was 55 and I was 17, so I've always had a sense of waiting for that shoe to drop. I almost believed it was inevitable that I'd eventually get it. I have two older sisters and none of us have had any cancer and we are 71, 75 and 79, with me being the youngest.
So, so happy for you!

(20,209 posts)I lost my mother to breast cancer in 2004. I've gotten mammograms since I was 40. In 2012 they said I needed biopsies in both breasts. The waiting for the results was agony. I even had wigs picked out for when I was going to lose my hair to chemo. But finally I got back the results. NEGATIVE! Whew!

(15,372 posts)I had no symptoms whatsoever. It was a routine mammogram that showed that I had IT in my left breast.
But I was very fortunate to be in excellent medical hands: had breast mastectomy and reconstruction, AND was SO fortunate not to have to undergo either radiation or chemo. It was all over within four weeks of my diagnosis.
So far, there's none in the right breast and it's been more than five years.
May your good health continue!
Thankfully, treatments for breast cancer today are so much more effective than they used to be, especially if it is caught and treated rapidly.

(19,818 posts)I know what it's like to wait on test results like that my very first mammogram when I was in my forties showed a lump on the right breast.... turned out after all the checking that it was an old scar because of an injury years ago.
Good news.
