Costco membership required? To make a food court purchase you may soon need to be a member.

Is the Costco food court becoming a members-only club?

Or will only some locations bar the public from buying a cheap slice of pizza or $1.50 hot dog and soda combo without proof of membership?

Signs have been spotted at some Costco stores across the nation indicating a change is coming to food courts, which also sell churros and ice cream.

The Costco Deals Instagram account, a fan account not affiliated with the wholesale club, posted a photo of a sign Thursday that says a membership card will soon be required to partake in food court offerings.

They check it at the entrance. So I don't get what's different.

the low-cost of the food-court items is part of the benefit of membership. No one can sell food (junky as it is) at those prices without some offset. So I can see why Costco wants to start monitoring for membership.

Sneaking in through the exit door is cheating. Plus, it explains why it can be so hard to find a parking spot or a table. It's hard to believe that this kind of cheating is widespread, but who knows.

people accessing the food court via the exits. I’ve never heard an employee challenge anyone who said they were only going to the food court.

There's no reason to enter through the exit if policy permits.

This is all so stupid. We've been Costco members for 15+ years or more. I can say we've maybe eaten at the food court fewer than a dozen times. Bad for your health!

The Costco pharmacy has good prices and the food is inexpensive.

It's a way of "going out to eat" on a very limited budget.

When the weather is good the tables are always full.

It will be sad if they shut that down.
