Do I ALWAYS have to use some type of hair protective spray every time I use a curling iron?? I know my hair has to be totally dry, but do I always have to use a protective spray as well??? Thanks.

(919 posts)but when I did, it felt like a film on my hair. So, I stopped using the spray. I did, however, condition my hair deeply when I used the curling iron. I've since cut my hair off, so now I no longer use one. Most liberating thing I've ever done with my hair!

(14,961 posts)I flat iron my hair almost everyday, so of course I do, but if you're just doing it occasionally you should be fine, unless your hair is particularly brittle, damaged or fragile.

(3,266 posts)of a protective spray....but, conditioning is a good idea. I put styling gel in my wet hair, blow dry it then curl. Just keep feeling the outer layer of hair and when its warm, take out the iron. Usually about 30 seconds. Ive never burned my hair off! Do let the curl cool before brushing or combing it, or youll lose the curl. The clip kind is a bit friendlier than the brush kind. Come to think of it I did fry my hair once with the brush kind, they get SOOOOO hot.
