About a month ago, I hyperextended my right thumb--of all places--during a water aerobic class for arthritis sufferers. I thought it was merely a sprain, but it turned out I ruptured my UCL. I can't grasp anything heavy righty and have to learn to do a lot of stuff lefty--I'm right-handed btw.
My doctor squeezed me in for urgent surgery because my thumb is not healing properly. Wish me luck.

(8,012 posts)Be careful after it's over too. I had a friend who didn't follow doctor's orders and ended up being worse off than before the surgery. Let us know how you're doing.

(919 posts)Sounds like you have a good doctor. When I broke my neck in 2014, the surgeon wanted to go on vacation and left me sitting for 4 days. So, getting you in immediately was fantastic! I'm sure it'll go well.

(17,988 posts)A few years ago I woke up with a hand that was like a block of wood. After a trip to ER, extensive tests, including brain the Doctors decided it was my carpel tunnel nerve due to excessive exercising at the Y! cortisone shot and pills.
You will be fine because the surgery is much easier now. Take care and best wishes!
