Damn you Montreal Bagels! I say, Damn you, Sir!

My diet has not gone well since i bought some. They are so good. This is why i can't have delicious food in the house. I knew a girl growing up who's mother put all the good food in a cubboard and gave the combination to everyone except herself. I'm going to need a long chain to fit around the fridge and freezer. Wait! ..... I live alone. Something else i cannot have.

Other than your padlocked pantry, of course?

I've never heard of them.

I have a killer chocolate shake substitute - if I put it through my food processor, it's be good ice cream I suspect.

I start out with:
1/2 cup milk (or milk substitute of my choice)
1 heaping tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 packets of Splenda or Stevia
1 scoop of protein powder (chocolate, vanilla, and chai tea have all worked)
2 cups of ice
(For mocha, add a teaspoon instant coffee)

Put in blender and blend until smooth.

Recently I tried my hot cocoa drink mix in the smoothie chocolate shake (from an Alton Brown recipe - https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=alton+brown+hot+cocoa+mix - but modified by using Splenda or Stevia or sometimes some of each).

Here is that mixture:
2 scoops cocoa mix
1 teaspoon instant coffee (optional)
1-2 scoops protein powder (depends on the brand and size of scoop)
2 cups ice

Blend until frothy and smooth.

This is richer than the original and much more satisfying. I'm thinking it's make a good "ice cream."

By the way, when I started reading this thread, I had just been looking up recipes for Lemon Sorbet. I had i lemon on my shopping list and he brought home 5. I think I will break out my ice cream maker and make some sorbet tomorrow. Gotta go wash the bowl of it and put it in the freezer...

They all are good. I personally never like raisin bagels. But is the inside i like so much and the chrispy outside. They sell them in the Montreal airport as travellers want them.

The only way I can keep my weight down is to eat a low carb diet .... and I cook dinner most nights for my hubby and 2 grown sons who love carbs. I have to cook them but I can’t eat them! Mashed potatoes, corn bread, spaghetti, etc. And they bring out the ice cream bars every night for dessert! My willpower only lasts so long some days.

they can come in odder shapes and are narrower but it just makes the ratio of crusty hint of honey outside to chewy sweet & earthy inside better. They are less like bread. And more like what a bagel was meant to be. The city of Montreal is making them get serious about putting filters on their wood fire chimneys. I went to a chain in Ottawa and they seemed to have a wood fire going there but it was in a strip mall so i didn't check the exhaust. The chain bagels were just wonderful. I will have to stay away.
