https://blog.therainforestsite.greatergood.com/chunk-the-groundhog/This is hilarious . . . photos at the link!
Jeff Permar planted the seeds and took all the necessary precautions to protect his growing veggies. He was no stranger to wild animals attempting to help themselves to his lush garden, but thought a wire fence and scarecrow would deter most of them.
One day he noticed that there were chunks missing from multiple tomatoes and was determined to find the culprit. Jeff placed motion cameras on his garden and was shocked by what he saw. His phone sent him a motion notification and when he opened it he saw a groundhog pop up right in front of the camera.
EDIT: He's got a YouTube channel, too!

(5,444 posts)So too, groundhogs.
At least they are cute and pose well for their pictures and video. The mice and rats that decimate my fig tree fruit every year, not so much.

(847 posts)I already have an 8' fence for the Deer I added electric to the bottom for groundhogs. Cute to watch a video but put weeks in the garden to come out and see it gone is WAR. Happily since I put the electric they do not get in, just chipmunks which do not take much.

(10,216 posts)They are a big problem when they get in big colonies. Luckily, I have shale most everywhere. I bring in soil for establishing gardens. They don't like digging in rock so they stay away for the most part. But my idiot neighbor is nurturing a family of groundhogs in her driveway. The huge holes in her driveway are everywhere.
