I'm guessing 99% of you have never heard the name before. His real name may, or may not, have been Montgomery Ball. He was an outlaw for most of his adult life. A grower, breeder, advocate, felon, and to some an a**hole (most leaders are).
If you were to ask a 1000 random growers who he was, you would get 1200 different answers. But they would all know his name, and most would know him directly (though I never met him or talked to him, I watched countless hours of his web videos).
In the past few years, life kicked him down, and kept kicking him, but he kept trying to get up. He went through a messy divorce that tore his business apart. His house, business and genetics were lost in the California fires. He had a terminal genetic illness (Alpha 1) that both destroyed his liver and his lungs. His treatments were about $13k twice a month. Late last year, the state of AZ busted his home and seized all of his cash and froze his bank accounts on a technicality (he was trying the legal route); then he was evicted. He lost his health insurance and medication for a time until NORD stepped in to help.
His final home was an RV with his 2 dogs.
But he always had a will do attitude. Laughing and doing his thing on you tube. May we all have that attitude until the end.
