(854 posts)Geez, these guys aren't even trying. Pretty much crapola all the way around.
And thinking of the Superbowl
. I was a big football fan for so many years. I played football in high school, being a starting tackle my senior year. My NFL team even won 4 Superbowls in my lifetime to which I cheered mightily. I have to say though that over the last few years I can barely watch football anymore. Between the perversion of the rules to favor offense over all, and the fact that people are watching and fawning over guys literally bashing their brains out as entertainment tends to make me ill. Knowing what we know now about contact sports and traumatic brain injury, us still getting all gaga over it is kind of sick. I don't care if it's "their choice" or whatever, it's still sickening. I don't find watching some guy, or bunch of guys, beating the hell out of each other, some segment of which are essentially destroying their brains for our enjoyment entertaining anymore now that I'm aware of the possible consequences to many of them. "Bread & circuses" may have been fine in Roman times, but one would hope that, given knowledge, we would have evolved in the last 1600-2000 years. Apparently not. And that parents would allow their kids to continue to get involved in this "sport", given what is now known, leaves me aghast. There are physical collisions in all team sports, but only in football (and hockey & rugby) are collisions an intentional and an integral part of the game. Given the nature of what entails, I don't think there is any piece of equipment that can be re-designed to mitigate the impact and damage done to the sloshing around of someone brain due to a collision. And I just can't find any entertainment value in that anymore.
