I pitched my old one (Hoover, just a few years) that just refused to draw much at all into the recycling pile. Damn, I hate it that nothing lasts anymore.

(21,155 posts)So the last time it broke I got lazy and brought a Hoover. The vacuum was crap. Brought 3 plastic belts which broke after a few uses. I finally found a new guy who repairs Kirbys. It cost me $85 and its good as new. Never will buy a Hoover again they are garbage.

(2,042 posts)Like you it was the belts every time. And like you i love our kirby We have 2 saint bernards so it's heavy duty vacuuming, but kirbys tend to hold up better.

(4,608 posts)Cant tell you how much random stuff Ive accidentally sucked up with the attachment wand curtains, laundry, dog toys...
They were not kidding about the suction!

(60,010 posts)Sears, no less. It can use regular vacuum hose/attachments.
Bought it especially because of suction power, and its light enough to easily move around the floors, easy to clean out, and was pretty cheap at the time.
2 downsides:
Not as easy to use as an upright on wall to wall carpeting, but we don't have carpets.
Noisy. That's why god made ear plugs.
