📱 🚨 Text Scam Alert! The article is several years old but I just received the referenced text.

Walmart is warning customers to be on the lookout for a "scam" text message that promise a $1,000 gift card. Although the message appears to be from the retailer, Walmart said it did not authorize it and customers may be exposing themselves to identity theft or fraud.

For many Walmart shoppers, it appears to be a text message from heaven: "You have been selected for a $1,000 Walmart gift card."

"Who wouldn't want that?" said Eloisa Sevilla, a San Fernando Valley resident.

I also got one last week that was a receipt for some app I hadn't ordered that cost $500. It told me to call a toll free number if that was an error. I did not respond but let it ride for a couple of days to see if it hit one of my credit cards. It didn't.

I don't know what they were going to do if I'd called them, but I decided not to find out. No app costs $500, for pity's sake.
