3. It's over. Several areas lost power but we didn't, yay! There's some flooding that is blocking the

road a few blocks from me & some buildings including some at MSU have flood damage, but we lucked out. We did get over 3" of rain, about .25" of ice and about 3" of sleet/snow. The storm jogged a little north of where it was predicted and we stayed in the warm sector longer. Areas just north of us were harder hit.

4. Whew! I know you were well-prepared, but I still worried about you--and I worried that if you lost

power we wouldn't get our Dodo fix for awhile. (Selfish, I know!)

So you have fish AND frogs? What kind of fish, and why frogs? (As a kid I had fish, frogs, snakes, lizards, and turtles, and once a baby Cayman crocodile. Also dogs, cats, and parakeets.)

6. I was really concerned because the last time my area had an ice storm on 12/21, 2013,

power was out for over 4 days. Merry Christmas, indeed. I was still in Grand Rapids at the time so I missed it, but my late SO said he spent Christmas huddled by the gas fireplace, sipping gas station coffee while eating a tin of caramel corn somebody had given him. Yikes. (We hadn't reconnected yet.)

I have 5 Dwarf Aquatic Frogs that I just adore. They're "blonde" but look almost albino and they're hilarious. I just love them. They really seem to have a sense of humor. They're quite friendly, too. They'll eat out of my hand and always come to greet me when I tap the bowl. They tend to startle people because they like to float on the water and they also like to lie at the bottom of the tank on their backs so folks think they're dead. I also have several platies, but the frogs are the stars. Here are some pics of the frogs and one shot of my very pregnant platy. My tank is a 16-gallon BiOrb classic which is the ideal lazy person's aquarium. Hardly any maintenance at all.

5. I too learned the magic word

To get my granddog to do anything. “Lucy, treat!” And I never lie, it’s either a bacon-flavored Beggin’ Strip (damn they smell good!) or a handful of Cheerios.

8. My cat gives the same response to the word treat.

Also to the word "hungry." i keep her soft treats in the fridge and her dry food in a cupboard above the stove hood (which she can't get to because of the hood slant).

When I ask if she is hungry, she goes to her dish or stands in front of the stove. If I ask if she wants a treat, she rubs against the fridge door.

And God help anyone in her path if she is in another room when she hears either word. Faster than a speeding bullet at the sound of the magic words.

Yes, I sometimes bribe her with these words when I want her attention..

9. Catbyte -- As so often happens with MI weather, it

reaches western NY within hours or the next day after you have it. This morning several roads and sections of the NYS thruway at Buffalo were closed due to ice. Could have been worse, but very high winds on Sunday dried a lot of surfaces after 2 days of rain.

I'm near Buffalo, but our immediate community was not affected by the ice.

10. Buffalo, one of Snowmageddon Capitals of the World. You guys get more lake effect off of

Lake Erie than we do off of Lake Michigan. The snow totals are astounding. I remember a couple of years ago when areas around Buffalo got 3' in less than a day. Love the Great Lakes! Take care. Glad you didn't get the ice.

11. 3 feet in less than a day? How about

2 storms back to back in 3 days, dumping a total of 7 feet in 2014? Caved in several buildings, even with our building codes designed to tolerate high amounts. Again, I was lucky that my area is just past the snow belt and only got around 3 feet. The governor arrived with a caravan of plows and trucks to personally direct rescues and snow removal.

It's because Buffalo is at the eastern end of the lake, getting the accumulated moisture of the length of Lake Erie and sometimes Superior, depending on how the winds are blowing.

But aside from snowfall amounts, we do often get a dose of your weather patterns, especially summer thunderstorms. In winter, when you're getting snowed on, we just add aeveral inches to your forecast to know what we'll get. (The other storm pattern for us is the Ohio Valley, which blows from SW to NE here.)
